In honor of World Press Freedom Day this week, we highlight the growing threats to press freedom in Seychelles.
Independent media face blatant interference — key outlets are excluded from state events, journalists are silenced and reputable reporters are banned from re-entering the country, even with pending court cases.
Attempts to intimidate international media, including hacking efforts (https://atcnews.org/attempts-to-hack-atcnews-following-reporting-about-questionable-actions-by-security-organs-in-seychelles/), reveal a very disturbing pattern, reminiscent of the dark days many of the islands’ people suffered during the Rene dictatorship.
This is not the democracy the Seychellois people were promised before the last elections and are a sign of the growing desperation of the current regime.
