BILATERAL TALKS UNDERWAY BETWEEN SEYCHELLES AND REUNION

(Posted 22nd April 2016)

Faouzia Vitry, the Conseilliere Regionale of Reunion Island and Sophie Jasmin, the Cultural Director of the island met this morning with Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture. Mme Vitry and Mme Jasmin are the Official representatives of Reunion Island at the 2016 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria. Present also at this meeting was Sherin Naiken, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board.

Also in Seychelles with a large cultural delegation is Lynda Lee Mow Sim, the island’s Conseillere Regionale. The Reunion and Seychelles delegations discussed the firming-up of a working program which is hoped to be formalized in the coming weeks when President Didier Robert accompanied by Mme Vitry will be in Seychelles with a working delegation to conclude the negotiations.

Tourism, Culture and Trade was discussed as well as air connectivity, all aimed at boosting the trade and tourism links between the two Vanilla Islands.

Reunion is notably for the sixth year running co-host of the Carnival International de Victoria and has, according to comments received from IRT sources, drawn significant benefits from the added visibility this French Indian Ocean island would otherwise have found hard to generate.

In a related development did Reunion Tourism today host a group of international media representatives at Cap Lazare for a presentation of the island’s attractions, much needed when it transpired that only four of over 100 hosted journalists had ever visited Reunion, this correspondent of course included among the four. Present were key staff of IRT, short for Ile de la Reunion Tourisme and Mr. Pascal Viroleau, CEO of the Vanilla Island organization who previously was head of IRT.
