#ReunionIsland’s Piton de la Fournaisse erupts for the third time this year

FIERY SPECTACLE AGAIN FOR VISITORS TO REUNION ISLAND AS VOLCANO ERUPTS FOR THE THIRD TIME IN 2019

After the second eruption of 11 June 2019 which lasted three days, the Volcanological Observatory of Piton de la Fournaise (OVPF) noted a resumption of seismic activity of the Piton de la Fournaise and a new eruption on Monday, July 29th at 5:13 am ( local time).

In this period of school holidays, the Piton de La Fournaise, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, offers its show of lights to the delight of holidaymakers presently on the island as much as for the local population.
Before visting the Piton de la Fournaise and experiencing a moment of magic, are visitors advised to check the weather and plan on warm clothes as during this time of year, temperatures range from 5° C in the morning to only 15° C in the afternoon.

According to the Volcanological Observatory of Piton de la Fournaise (OVPF), the eruption this time is located on the north side of the mountain near the Rosemont Chapel.
The prefect of Reunion has issued a mandatory notice “eruption in progress” as required by law and regulations.

Public access to the Fouqué enclosure therefore, from the Pas de Bellecombe trail or from any other trail, as well as from aircraft overlying the volcano area, are prohibited until further notice.
