RIP ROBERT BRIERLEY

Robert Brierley, one of the visionaries behind the rise of Uganda’s South West’s growing popularity for adventure tours, walking safaris and the establishment of hiking trails, is no more. Rob unexpectedly and suddenly passed away over the weekend, leaving behind a grieving family in Langenthal / Switzerland and many shocked friends in Uganda, who are still struggling to come to terms with his passing.
Initially known for his webpage promotions for Uganda’s tourism sector at a time when web based promotions were still in its infancy, he launched the Uganda Travel Planner via www.traveluganda.co.ug and provided a commercial platform for many of Uganda’s upcoming tourism businesses.
He later gained additional reputation for turning his dreams into reality when he founded the Nkuringo Gorilla Camp and Nkuringo Walking Safaris, located on the Western side of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park within the Nkuringo village. A passionate photographer par excellence and a keen naturalist he paved the way and opened new frontiers for Uganda’s adventure tourism fraternity with his various initiatives and was, when we last communicated a few days ago, full of ideas and set his sights on higher goals, like the completion of the new self-contained cottages at the Nkuringo Gorilla Camp. Rest in peace my friend and until we meet again.

RIP ROBERT BRIERLEY!!!
Robert will leave an unfillable gap. His vision, enthusiasm and energy were inspirational and the impact he had on the community at Nkuringo incalculable. All at Adept Education are filled with sorrow at his passing.
I want to thank everyone who expressed their emotions here over Robert’s untimely passing. The shock will take a long time to wear off but Robert left a legacy behind like few others, helping to put Uganda’s South West on the map.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Robert’s passing. His knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm for Uganda made my experience there, totally unforgettable. It will stay with me for the rest of my life. I know he will be greatly missed. My sincere sympathies go to his family and the many friends he has left in Uganda and my greatest thanks go to him for giving me the experience of a lifetime. God rest Robert.
Rest in peace Rob, may the good Lord and all the angels receive your soul with mercy and love.
What happened? I have just seen the article in the papers
Rob, from what I learned, felt poorly in the morning, was taken to the International Hospital in Kampala and then, very unexpectedly, passed away.

thank you for everyone’s kind words for my beloved husband, our Daddy; your wonderful memories of him help lift our spirits.My children and I and everyone involved at the Nkuringo Gorilla camp and at the office in Entebbe will work hard to keep his dream alive. Robert will always be in our hearts and together we continue his passion for Uganda.

While Rob and I periodically met – we communicated mostly through cyber
space – you and the children I never did meet.
Uganda, I hope, will always be a second home to you three as it was
for Rob. Perhaps, when you next visit, we can have a cup of tea together
and remember and salute him.
Today we join together as Tour operators in Uganda to celebrate the life of Ugandan tourism Late Robert Brierley.
We will forever remember you.

Rob, every day we miss you more than words can say… we realize daily how much you did for all of us how many jobs you did we are very proud! Still I wonder if we ever manage to fill only a small gap of it. R.I.P. Reg,
