RwandAir has taken delivery of another Airbus A330-200, the first of five A330s the airline plans to add to its fleet as part of its long-haul expansion strategy.
The new aircraft will boost passenger capacity on international routes and joins RwandAir’s existing A330-200 fleet. It will further strengthen the carrier’s connectivity between Rwanda and destinations across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
RwandAir currently operates a mixed fleet of Airbus A330-300 and A330-200 aircraft, Boeing 737s, and Bombardier Q400s , with the A330s anchoring long-haul international operations while the 737s and Q400s serve regional routes from Kigali.
The added commitment is somewhat in stark contrast to neighbouring Uganda, where only recently the national airline signed a deal for four Boeing B787’s , moving away from Airbus on alleged account that the Boeing infrastructure in Africa is better suited to airlines.
There is much speculation among aviation pundits what the true and real reasons behind the move from Airbus to Boeing were and every reader of ATCNews familiar with allegiances and what id German is called ‘Seilschaften’ can make up her or his own mind.
