Seychelles and Austria sign new BASA to pave way for Austrian Airlines flights

VIENNA TO MAHE FLIGHTS TO LAUNCH IN OCTOBER

(Posted 06th May 2017)

Seychelles’s Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine Mr. Maurice Loustau-Lalanne and the Austrian Ambassador to the Seychelles, H.E. Harald Gunther yesterday signed into effect a new Bilateral Air Services Agreement for which negotiations had started already in 2014. The new deal allows for code shared operations between national airlines and allows unrestricted frequencies and aircraft types for flights between Vienna and Mahe.
Also signed was an agreement vis a vis double taxation related to air operations.
Austrian Airlines will launch a once per week Boeing B767 service on October 25th expected to boost tourist arrivals from Austria and neighbouring European countries for the Seychelles.
Last year did over 6.000 Austrians visit the Seychelles and once the flight is operational are numbers anticipated to rise by 40 percent in the first year already.
Both Austrian Airlines and the Seychelles Tourist Board are expected to embark on joint marketing activities to popularize the archipelago among Austrian long haul travelers.
