Seychelles’ public transport boosted by 34 new busses

MODERN BUSSES INVITE TOURISTS ON MAHE TO EXPLORE THE ISLAND

(Posted 25th February 2016)

Just weeks before the 6th edition of the Carnival International de Victoria on the Seychelles main island of Mahe have news emerged that the Public Transport Corporation will get 34 brand new busses to boost fleet and dispatch reliability.
Traveling across the island on public transport gives visitors a different perspective of life and the scenery of Mahe, and at a very affordable price that is. For the proverbial ‘Fiver’, five Seychelles Rupees that is, can a tourist board a bus and travel as far as the end station of the route, or else get off at the next stop or any in between.
On the busses it is easy to strike conversation with locals, learn about their way of life and make new friends. Seated way higher than in a saloon car or tourist van does one also see more from the elevated position, able to enjoy a different view of the island as the busses make their way up into the mountains and down to the beach on the other side, ideal for taking photographs of more unusual settings.
Many of the journalists coming to Mahe for the Carnival may want to try out the new busses and get some stories beyond the carnival experience, perhaps following in the footsteps of this correspondent who, whenever on Mahe, does a few bus trips to get that unique close up and personal experience of being among the islanders instead of among tourists.
It is understood that some of the busses will be deployed on the second largest island of Praslin.
Sources from Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles, also confirmed that a further 30 busses will arrive before the end of the year and another 100 hve been ordered for delivery up to 2018.
