SOUTH SUDAN BANS AGED AIRCRAFT FROM CARRYING PASSENGERS

Positive news have come out of Juba, South Sudan’s capital city, that a serious clean up of the aviation industry is unfolding.
It is understood that the aviation regulator has banned passengers to be carried on aircraft aged over 20 years and particular reference has been made to Antonov aircraft, which type has been involved in several accidents in the past.
South Sudan’s Information Minister Michael Lueth also condemned operators using aircrafts without proper airworthiness certificates, lacking maintenance records or even using crews not qualified to operate aircraft, effectively giving notice that their days are numbered.
South Sudan, as does the Republic of Sudan, both have suffered above average air accident rates in the past, something authorities in South Sudan are now keen to address and resolve on a lasting basis.
