Swahili Fashion Week postpones Nairobi event

SWAHILI FASHION WEEK NAIROBI EVENT POSTPONED

The much anticipated ‘Swahili Fashion Week Nairobi’ was yesterday postponed until a later date by the organizers, citing logistical and other problems. The regular ‘Swahili Fashion Week’, created by Mustafa Hassanali in 2008 has been taking place ever since in Tanzania and has established itself as a premier fashion event, featuring local designers and models, but, while incorporating designers and models from across the entire Eastern African region, and beyond, was until now largely restricted to Tanzania so far.

The information received from the organizers of the Nairobi event, which was due to take place next weekend, reads as follows:

The Swahili Fashion Week teams and its management, after much deliberation, regrets to announce that its proposed Swahili Fashion Week Kenya 2014 , scheduled for April 5th, has been postponed due to technical, logistical and other reasons beyond their control to a future date that shall be announced soon.
We would like to thank all stakeholders for their continued patience, time and interest in participating in the April event and we sincerely look forward to their continuous support in on our coming events. The Swahili Fashion Week Kenya team is keen to work in collaboration with each brand to ensure a smooth process.

There has already been disappointment expressed from fashion aficionados over the cancellation of the event as many have been looking forward to welcome SFW to the Kenyan capital

The main Swahili Fashion Week 2014 event has been scheduled for Dar es Salaam from December 05th to 07th and is expected to be following in the footsteps of the hugely successful and popular 2013 event. Fans of East African fashion will be keenly watching out for an announcement when the Nairobi event will finally take place and when the new dates are made public.
