TANAPA manager’s murder all but solved as key suspect reportedly confesses to the crime

ARUSHA POLICE ARREST KISAMO MURDER SUSPECT

(Posted 26th December 2015)

Information received from Arusha on Christmas Day confirmed the arrest of a key suspect in the murder of the TANAPA anti-poaching head Mr. Kisamo. A domestic staff of Mr. Kisamo was found with compromising evidence in his possession when the police searched his premises and it appears that Ismail Sangwa has since his arrest confessed to the murder. Among the items recovered from the suspect, known to have belonged to the late Kisamo, were money, mobile phones and items of clothing. It could not be confirmed at this stage however that he acted alone and other suspects are reportedly still in police custody.

This also puts to rest speculation that Mr. Kisamo was a victim of the poaching gangs he had pursued with some vigour when he served at the Tanzania National Park Authority.

The mood among Kisamo’s former colleagues, Christmas notwithstanding, remained reportedly depressed over his untimely end. One source from TANAPA confirmed that funeral arrangements would be announced just as soon as the main part of the police investigation is completed, the post mortem reports have been submitted and the body been released to the family of the late Kisamo for burial. Messages of condolence and sympathy can be routed to the family via TANAPA.
