Earlier this week did President Samia Suluhu Hassan appoint Mohammed Mchengerwa as Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism replacing Pindi Chana who swapped ministries with his colleague. Before his new appointment was Mchengerwa the Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports.
Also new to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism is the Permanent Secretary Dr. Hassan Abbasi, who previously served together with Minister Mchengerwa at the Ministry for Culture, Arts and Sports.
Upon his appointment, during one of his first functions he presided over, did the Minister hand over 22 vehicles for anti-poaching patrols to 22 vehicles for anti-poaching patrols to TAWA, short for Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority, in the Morogoro region. “We should work day and night in fighting poaching in the country’s wildlife-protected areas. The Minister, in a timely move ahead of the upcoming #ITB2023 – the world’s largest tourism show held in Berlin in early March – also called for an intensified campaign to promote tourism to Tanzania.
Tanzania Association of Tour Operators, in short TATO Executive Mr. Sirili Akko said when asked to comment: ‘As industry players, we welcome the new minister and promise him all necessary cooperation. We also appreciate the outgoing minister’s role in the sector‘.
