Tanzania’s tourism industry has asked the Government to establish a joint preparedness and emergency-response plan before potentially heavy El Niño rains during the October high season.

The Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) is pushing for a joint emergency preparedness plan with the government to protect visitors and minimize disruptions from heavy El Niño rains expected during the peak tourism season.
The proposed plan would bring together tourism authorities, the meteorological agency, road and local-government bodies, airport operators, police, medical services, aviation companies and tourism businesses.
The aim is to establish clear responses to flooding, damaged roads, disrupted flights and other weather-related emergencies. Industry leaders say advance coordination is particularly important because severe weather during peak travel periods can affect visitor safety, access to national parks and the wider tourism economy.
