The AviAssist Foundation offers new specialised training next month in Kigali

(Posted 05th October 2026)

Registration is now open for the first edition of our Risk Assessment for Drones (SORA) course which will take place in Rwanda 26-29 October.

As drone operations become more complex, regulators need a structured way to assess the risks involved in specific operations.

SORA (Specific Operations Risk Assessment) provides that structured methodology that helps drone operators:
• Assess the risks of a specific operation
• Identify appropriate mitigations,
• Define the safety measures and operational requirements needed, and
• Demonstrate to the relevant authority how the operation can be conducted safely.

SORA 2.5 is the leading standard for drone risk assessment, developed together with leading regulators from Cameroon, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, and South Africa.

Our four-day training equips attendees with the skills to navigate the SORA framework to obtain authorization to operate complex drone operations such as Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS), Urban Air Mobility (UAM), and high-risk operations such as for example inspections of critical infrastructure and agricultural drone operations with heavy payloads.
