Brussels Airlines aficionados have voted over the past nearly two weeks and decided that the ‘Smurfs‘ will adorn the airline’s next and fifth branded plane from March next year, after a new livery has been painted on the Airbus A320.

The Smurfs are one of Belgium’s most loved comic characters and are internationally known, so they are sure to be a good ambassador for Belgium and national carrier Brussels Airlines.

Said Marta Mascellani, the contest winner with her proposal, when she learned yesterday about the overwhelming vote for her design: ‘Drawing is my big passion so when I heard of the contest I thought it was a great challenge I wanted to take. I’ve always loved Peyo’s creations. I like the Smurfs cartoon and the films. I thought it was also the best occasion to draw them because it’s the 60th anniversary in 2018. I love the fact that Brussels Airlines is the only airline to promote its country and culture in such a way, painting new special livery planes every year. My brother is a pilot for Brussels Airlines, so I feel connected to the company‘.

Brussels Airlines is a proud ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium and really carries ‘belgitude’ in its heart. Tintin, Magritte, the Belgian Red Devils and Tomorrowland each already fly proudly on an Airbus A320 as Belgian Icons.
On board their aircraft does Brussels Airlines also whatever it takes to bring Belgium food and culture to their passengers, from the world’s best chocolates and signature beers to menus made by Belgian Michelin star rated chefs to cabin crew uniforms designed by Belgian designers.

Brussels Airlines currently connects Entebbe / Uganda five times a week from the European capital but come December will the airline for the first time ever go daily, flying once a week via Bujumbura / Burundi to Uganda’s main international airport and six times a week via Kigali / Rwanda.

The upgrade to daily flights will give passengers traveling to and from Uganda the added choice, no longer having to ask ‘which days do you fly‘ because the answer to that will simply be ‘every day‘.

The iconic Airbus A320 branded aircraft are then carrying passengers from Brussels into the airline’s extensive European network, from end October onwards progressively enhanced by a further 26 destinations coming on line in three stages up to the start of Brussels Airlines Summer 2018 schedule.
