Thornybush Game Lodge has revealed a brand new vibe for 2023 with a striking re-design and refurbishment, and a brand-new Family Villa which will follow in May. This will ensure that the lodge will remain one of the most esteemed and exclusive safari lodges in the Greater Kruger National Park.

As the first lodge in the Thornybush Nature Reserve (launched in 1961) the design brief was to breathe fresh life into its classic safari charm, and this was achieved by the masterly design of Caline Williams-Wynn of Artichoke Design. The lodge was also downsized for a more exclusive ambience.  The new style reinvigorates by combining cool textiles, modern materials, and traditional fittings. Texture and tone play leading roles, creating a timeless yet contemporary retreat.

It will boast a fabulous new gym and spa. A new solar plant will also provide a greener solution and reduce dependence on South Africa’s very strained energy supply. Ottolenghi-inspired buffets, offer a light and fresh approach to safari meals, as guests share safari stories by the campfire and soak up the atmosphere of the candlelit bush dinners.

Thornybush Game Lodge will also launch Kamara House in May 2023, a relaxed and elegant family villa. This two-bedroom solo-use villa will comprise of two doubles and an optional twin room, which can be further extended by taking the adjacent villa to accommodate larger family groups.

As the original lodge in the Reserve, Game Lodge proudly put Thornybush on the map back in 1961; and with this exciting new upgrade it is blazing into its most recent incarnation with characteristic panache.

Head of Sales and Marketing, JB Burger commented:

Our aim was to ensure that everything that is loved and treasured about Game Lodge was maintained and kept to the high-level standard that has been carried throughout all these years. We hope that both first-time and repeat guests will experience the treasures and charm of the iconic property, whilst enjoying the elevated modernised environment.”
