NEW FERRY FACILITIES SET FOR COMPLETION BEFORE FESTIVE SEASON

A new passenger terminal at the port, catering for ferry passengers leaving for Seychelles’ second largest island Praslin, has gained shape and is according to information from Victoria looking at a completion date before the end of the year.
The present facilities, ticketing office included, no longer match the sharp rise in passenger numbers and especially when it rains are travelers exposed to the elements before boarding the Cat Cocos ferries.
A regular source from the islands also confirmed that similar construction work is planned for the ferry quay on Praslin island where equally shelters are lacking at present for ferry passengers boarding or deboarding, ahead of the construction of a new ferry port at Ile Eve.
The Mahe ferry port building will provide a waiting lounge sufficient for a full load of ferry passengers, a new ticketing and check in office, cafeteria facilities and restrooms, all until now in short supply.
The Praslin ferry link, from where passengers destined for La Digue the connect for the remaining 15 minute journey, transports thousands of local and hundreds of international passengers every day between Mahe and Praslin while the other alternative is travel by air on one of the nearly two dozen scheduled flights operated by Air Seychelles between the international airport’s domestic section and the Praslin aerodrome.
