- Uber will cease operations in Uganda from September 02nd as part of a global restructuring plan.
- Despite leaving these two (Uganda and Nigeria) countries, Uber states it remains committed to Sub-Saharan Africa
- Uber also announced plans to cut about 3,300 jobs, roughly 10% of Uber’s global workforce.
- The restructuring aims to reduce management layers, cut remote roles, and reinvest savings into innovation and growth, especially autonomous mobility.
In breaking news was it confirmed that UBER will pull out of Uganda – and Nigeria for that matter – with immediate effect.
The unexpected move puts hundreds of UBER drivers in Uganda out of work and in many cases will ryi8n the investments drivers made in cars and the required technology which they needed to have installed in order to operate.
No comment was received from UBER about such issues, effectively leaving UBER Uganda drivers in total limbo.
Claims by UBER that the company remained committed to Sub-Saharan Africa were instantly dismissed as empty and fake talk aimed to divert attention away from their unprecedented decision to discontinue services in Uganda (and Nigeria) with immediate effect with no regard for the welfare of hundreds of people who served UBER diligently and honestly.
