LAUNCH DATE PUSHED TO 31ST OF AUGUST FOR UGANDA AIRLINES’ NAIROBI FLIGHTS

Uganda Airlines has earlier in the week performed one of the mandatory test flights, routing from Entebbe to Nairobi and back.
Part of the operational audit, leading to the granting of an Air Operator Certificate – the actual operating licence – requires that an applicant must demonstrate competence and preparedness for operations to commence.
On board the flight were Uganda Civil Aviation inspectors and Uganda Airlines staff.
A provisional date for the formal issue of an AOC was given as 28th of July but following that must the airline then also complete various pending applications vis a vis IATA, open their reservations network to actually accept real bookings and also complete a range of other related tasks.
Following the launch of Nairobi will the airline then on subsequent days launch both Dar es Salaam and Mogadishu, expected to take place on the 01st of September.
Operations will commence with initially two CRJ900 aircraft before two more join the fleet, supposedly later in the year.
Bombardier has since sold the CRJ programme to Mitsubishi of Japan, who promptly announced that once existing orders have been fulfilled the programme will be halted for good, concentrating on pushing sales of their own ‘SpaceJet‘ instead.
