UGANDA COMMITS TO CARBON EMISSION REDUCTION MEASURES FOR AVIATION SECTOR

(Posted 25th January 2019)

Uganda has expressed interest to voluntarily join CORSIA as only the 8th African member country. Other countries which had previously signed on to the ICAO aviation emission accord were in alphabetical order Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Gabon , Equatorial Guinea, Namibia and Nigeria.
Notably are countries like Kenya, Ethiopia, Egypt and South Africa, all with major aviation industries, still absent from the CORSIA initiative, which will eventually become a mandatory requirement for ICAO member states.
The accord was agreed at an ICAO general assembly in 2016 and will become binding by 2027 with various stages available for member countries towards that date.
