The Ugandan tourism and trade industry has reacted sharply to the US’ continued use of a travel advisory level 4 against the country.

Several comments received criticize the travel advisory as offensive and terming it in some cases as ‘rubbish’, stating that while failed states in Africa do deserve harsher anti travel advisories, Uganda is by no means anywhere near a failed state and that only ulterior motives against the country by the current US Administration can explain this hostile attitude.

The comments also highlighted the fall out of such negative advisories for tourism, in particular, but also for trade and urged the US for caution, as such actions could result in yet closer collaboration with BRICS countries, of which Uganda is an associate member.

Besides Uganda were 10 other countries named in the updated US State Department advisory, such as

Congo DR – presently swept by the arguably largest Ebola outbreak in history

Somalia – facing continued civil war, piracy from its shores and potential breakup

Central African Republic

Chad

Libya

Mali

Burkina Faso

Niger

South Sudan

Sudan

ATCNews will continue to monitor the situation and alert readers as and when the current level of advisories changes.
