Uganda Airlines has set the date for the launch of nonstop flights between Entebbe to Lagos / Nigeria as the 19th of October.

The route will initially be served three times a week, using an Airbus A330-800Neo aircraft with a three class layout of Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class. The flight timings will allow connectivity into many of the airline’s destinations across Eastern Africa and beyond, in both directions – to and from Lagos.

The announcement was made by the company’s CEO Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki at a function earlier in the evening, attended by the Nigerian High Commissioner, government officials and invited guests.

The launch of the Lagos service will be followed by the airline’s next launch soon afterwards as flights to Mumbai are also due in October, with the exact date still to be announced.

Said Jenifer Bamuturaki: “We have everything we need to start. We have our offices already up and running in these markets but we pushed the launch out to October, because we thought we would be somewhat swamped given the time between completing all regulatory certifications and the initial launch dates.

An airline official also suggested to ATCNews that the long expected launch of flights to Guangzhou / China is still expected before the end of the year but were tightlipped over the commencement of flights to London, a route from Entebbe which has been vacant for decades since the pullout of British Airways from the Ugandan market.

The new destinations will spare travelers from and to Uganda the detour through other airports in the region when flying to Lagos and Mumbai while flying on the world’s most modern wide body aircraft, the Airbus A330Neo.
