#UgandaAirlines CRJ900’s gaining shape

(Posted 07th December 2018)

The first of four CRJ900 aircraft, ordered by Uganda Airlines, is now in the paintshop at the Bombardier assembly line in Canada, with the first registration bearing the name of ‘Kob‘, Uganda’s symbol from the animal kingdom. At the Uganda CAA aviation stakeholder’s breakfast yesterday at the Kampala Serena Conference Centre did one of the officials let it slip that the first aircraft registration was now concluded and that the type approval for this aircraft, never previously registered in Uganda, was also underway.
Other destinations named have been Johannesburg while Lusaka and Harare are also being considered, as will be Khartoum and Addis Ababa.

Operations of the new airline are thought to go underway in either late Q1 or mid Q2 of next year when the four ordered short and medium haul jets will be delivered and have been readied for scheduled flight services.
Another source suggested that the first few routes of the new airline will be into the East African region, such as Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Juba and perhaps even into the hub of what will be one of the new carrier’s main rivals, Kigali.

Additional aircraft are due for delivery either late in 2019 or in 2020 when the first of two Airbus A330Neo’s will join the fleet to commence long haul flights out of Entebbe once the regional jets have created sufficient connectivity to feed long haul services.
