Ugandan health authorities have reacted to the various allegations made in recent days against Uganda’s Ebola surveillance and control measures, following the emergence of a case in Nigeria. A man who had visited the Congo DR had travelled through Uganda to Entebbe, where he boarded a flight to Abuja via Addis Ababa before being diagnosed several days after his return to Nigeria with the Bundibugyo type Ebola virus.
The Ministry of Health in Kampala therefore issued the following statement, clarifying on the circumstances of the man’s travel through and out of Uganda;

Earlier in the month did a similar situation arise when a Kenyan man also traveled from Congo DR – a country facing the arguably most severe outbreak of Ebola ever – via Uganda to Kenya, where he was three days after his return also diagnosed with the Bundibugyo type Ebola virus while back home in Wajir county. In Kenya have since then 8 more cases emerged, all however while already in isolation after contact tracing caught up with all but one individuals.
In Nigeria does the Ebola case for now remain the only one diagnosed although health authorities have also isolated dozens of the patient’s contacts since arriving in Nigeria.
