Applications for 2022 Best Tourism Villages Open

The Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO initiative will return for a second year as it establishes itself as the world’s leading network focused on tourism for rural development.Launched in 2021, Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO promotes and enhances the role of tourism in safeguarding rural villages, along with their landscapes, natural and cultural diversity, knowledge systems, and local values and activities, including gastronomy.

As African countries attained their independence in the 1950s and 1960s, a common joke was that the three symbols of their newfound sovereignty were a national anthem, a national flag, and a national airline.
Indeed, the following decades saw the rise and fall of numerous national and multi-national airlines throughout the continent, almost exclusively funded by national treasuries and controlled by state appointees.

First National Tourism Satelite Account Launched in Zimbabwe



UNWTO has partnered with the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry (MECTHI) of Zimbabwe to launch the country’s first National Tourism Satellite Account (TSA).The Account shows the size and significance of the tourism sector for the Zimbabwean economy, based on the last available pre-COVID-19 data and on data gathered before the formal transition of the national currency from US dollar into the Zimbabwean Dollar.

Radisson Hotel Group names Bert Fol as Regional Director for Africa Radisson Hotel Group has announced a transition in its African leadership team with the appointment of Bert Fol as Regional Director for Africa, focusing on English Speaking Africa and the promotion of Sandra Kneubuhler to District Director for South Africa, in addition to her role as Country Director of Sales. Sandra Kneubuhler, Country Director of Sales and District Director, South Africa. Kneubuhler, a South African national, started her hospitality career in 2001, holding various positions in Zambia, Switzerland, Thailand, and Qatar before returning to South Africa.
