VSPT: Join Us at the New Training Cafe
This quarter, the first group of students graduated from the Kyambura training cafe?; the celebration of International Peace Day attracted about 500 community members and saw the VSPT football team triumphant; and the Virunga Lodge sheep project produced its first lambs!

Take this opportunity to donate to any of these great causes, which make a real difference to the lives of those in the local communities.

The Training Cafe
A total of 15 students have been trained at the Omwani Training Cafe and have begun internships at various local lodges. The cafe has hired 3 of these students who will work as cooks and servers.
If you travel with Volcanoes Safaris do go and try the cafe’s full-bodied velvety coffee and its substantial breakfasts as well as pizzas in the evening!

International Peace Day
The VSPT celebrated the International Day of Peace on 21st September with the participation of about 500 community members at the Empundu Playground. This collaboration with the Omumashaka Drama Group, the tree nursery project and the women and girls football team provided ample opportunity for fun and games.

After the speech of Mr Kaja, the Local Chairman, stressing the importance of peace and cooperation, the Omumashaka Dance Group performed songs and plays about conservation; over 400 trees were distributed to community members; and two lively back to back football matches closed the day.

Uncharacteristically, The VSPT won both matches!

Sheep Project
The sheep that the VSPT donated to villagers last June are doing well. Two of them have produced one female lamb each. The families from Sunzu village, near Virunga Lodge, participating in the project clubbed together to buy a sheep for the family that keeps the ram. More lambs are expected: watch this space!
