LATEST AIRCRAFT DELIVERIES MAKE KENYA AIRWAYS’ FLEET THE YOUNGEST IN AFRICA

Kenya Airways yesterday reached a new milestone when a brand new B737-8HX Sky Interior arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the late afternoon. This is the first delivery of an order for five such aircraft, the remaining four expected to join the fleet over the coming months. The state of the art single aisle aircraft, registered as 5Y-CYA, is equipped with Boeing’s award winning ‘Sky Interior’ and offers the latest inflight entertainment system featuring a wide range of music and film programmes available to passengers on personal screens throughout both cabins.
The Kenyan flag carrier now holds the distinction of operating Africa’s youngest fleet, which will be cemented further when later on Monday 20th of October, Dreamliner number six, registered as 5Y-KZF (L/N 224 | C/N 36043) joins the fleet. Notably it is the 43rd B787 assembled at the new Charleston facility of Boeing from where the ferry flight is underway as we go to press.
Additional deliveries of three more such aircraft in early 2015 and four additional B737-8HX’s will further reduce the average age of the fleet in coming months.
Combined with a move to JKIA’s spanking new stainless steel, glass and marble Terminal 1A, which has become the home terminal of both Kenya Airways and the SkyTeam partner airlines, will additional innovations begin to roll out come November. Two brand new premium lounges, Simba and Pride, will open their doors for passengers, offering unparalleled comfort levels not available anywhere else in Africa. New menus created by top chefs and a new wine and champagne selection will await the KQ faithful on board, carefully crafted down to the smallest detail even giving new packaging for the Kenyan Macadamia and Cashew nuts.
The airline’s Director of Marketing Chris Diaz sounded enthusiastic about the upcoming changes and the new brand experience passengers will have when flying with ‘The Pride of Africa’, both in the air and on the ground.
The link shown below shows the takeoff from Amsterdam of one of KQ’s new B777-300ER’s which are equipped with inflight wireless web access, available once the aircraft reaches 10.000 feet allowing for on board experience to be shared via social media with those who remained on the ground and probably so wish they too were on board enroute to Nairobi for a holiday of a lifetime.
