#AFRICATRAVELWEEK – A SUCESS STORY YEAR AFTER YEAR

(Posted 15th May 2018)

WTM Africa has just announced key data of this year’s Africa Travel Week and in particular of the World Travel Market.
More than 600 companies exhibited at the event at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, itself almost a guarantee of success given their superb infrastructure and support for such events. Countries represented topped 50 this year with 37 from Africa, the core market of the event.
Visitor numbers have again gone up, this year by 18 percent while international media presence increased by 8 percent compared to 2017, testament to the increasing appeal of the event for global tourism publications, TV travel programmes and others.
Mexico, Greece, Romania, Spain, Argentina, Hong Kong, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Rwanda, Algeria and Ivory Coast for the first time had buyers attend the main African tourism fair of the WTM family. Chardonnay Marchesi, South Africa Portfolio Director for Reed Exhibitions’ Travel, Tourism & Sports Portfolio said that the company recorded an increase in exhibitors, visitor numbers, media and countries represented. She added: ‘We continue to strengthen our presence as the penultimate African travel trade exhibition and the trust of these exhibitors is testament to that.

This correspondent, for the second year running, was delivering two presentations during the event focusing this year on Kenya’s fight for MICE market share and on Tourism as the Backbone of the East African Economies.
