The 11th ICAO Africa–Indian Ocean (AFI) Aviation Week in Cairo, Egypt, delivered far more than high-level policy discussions. The event produced a series of strategic agreements and partnerships that are expected to shape the future of African aviation through enhanced regulatory cooperation, capacity building, technical assistance, and regional integration.
Key highlights include:
African Civil Aviation Commission AFCAC and the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate Zimbabwe‘s implementation of the Yamoussoukro Decision (YD) and the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).
International Civil Aviation Organization concluded several technical cooperation agreements with Burkina_Faso, Chad, and Zimbabwe, focusing on strengthening regulatory oversight, human capital development, aviation safety, and institutional capacity.
Egypt reinforced its position as a regional aviation leader by signing multiple bilateral cooperation agreements with Mozambique, Liberia, and the United_Arab_Emirates, covering technical collaboration, aviation training, expanded air traffic rights, and knowledge transfer.
