Several years after pulling out of the South Afrian market, in part related to the global C19 pandemic but also for more underlying issues such as court cases and aircraft being impounded, has Air Tanzania now decided that the time is right to re-launch flights between Dar es Salaam and Johannesburg.

Both countries are members of SADC, the Southern African Development Cooperation and under this umbrella can citizens of both countries travel without Visa on business and for leisure.

Flights from South Africa are already in place, operated by Airlink, Southern Africa’s leading privately owned airline and the addition of Air Tanzania flights will widen the choices of travelers and no doubt also see air fares lowered.

It is expected that the route will initially be served with Airbus A220 aircraft although at a later time the B787 could also be deployed on the route, in particular for the facilitation of cargo shipments.

Air Tanzania has more recently taken delivery of a Boeing 767F aircraft while making inroads into the air cargo market into and out of Tanzania.
