With a fleet of now four aircraft, three new Bombardier Q400NG turboprop and one almost derelict aged Q300, have Air Tanzania’s plans to expand their destinations across the region been revived, to a large part caused by the delayed delivery of the third Q400NG which only arrived a few weeks ago as reported here. This delayed delivery was seen as the major factor in only expanding the airline’s domestic network but not go regional at the time.

Last year already did Air Tanzania talk of resuming flights to Bujumbura but could not proceed as a result of lack of aircraft.
Now, as the delivery by mid year of two Bombardier CS300 jets – the first such aircraft to be put into operation in Africa by an African airline – draws nearer have shelved plans been dusted and not only is Bujumbura now back on the drawing board – very likely to be served with a Bombardier Q400NG – but so are Nairobi, Entebbe and Kigali, among others.

Frequencies on domestic destinations, depending on demand on those routes, are also expected to be looked at with the aim of serving some of them more often, now that the operational fleet does allow for this to happen.
