All eyes on Limuru when Africa’s top golfers come to Kenya

KENYA SET TO HOST THE ‘ALL AFRICA GOLF TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP 2015

(Posted 21st August 2015)

The Limuru Country Club will host Africa’s bi-annual team golfing championship this year from the 12th to the 15th of October, organized by the Kenya Golf Union.

Already have 17 countries confirmed their participation, coming from as nearby as Uganda to as far away as Tunisia. Other countries include Rwanda, Tanzania, Swaziland, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana and Ethiopia but also Mauritius and Egypt. From West Africa have Nigeria and Cote d’ Ivoire confirmed their attendance.

Each competing country will field a team of four players who will have to play four rounds during the four tournament days. The AAGTC is one of Africa’s premier golfing events and will be watched by observers from the major golfing nations and correspondents and editors of the world’s leading golf publications are expected to come to Nairobi to report from the Limuru hills, located just an hour’s drive from the capital.

Kenya Golf Union chairman Anthony Muhoro yesterday appealed to the business community to come on board as sponsors, with open spots apparently for a tournament airline, a telecom provider, other service industries and key consumer product manufacturers. It could not be established during the short time available yesterday evening, after getting the news form the KGU press conference, to what extent the Kenya Tourism Board was joining hands with the KGU considering the sustained efforts of KTB to promote the country as a major African golfing destination.

Perhaps now that the event is out in the open and it is known that KGU is still seeking support for the event, which is less than two months away, it may trigger some response among key corporate players in Kenya to take advantage and promote their services as well as the country at large.
