An Antonov 12 aircraft owned and operated by the Congolese military crashed earlier today soon after taking off from the main airport in Kinshasa, sources from Goma have informed about.
The plane came down some 20 kilometres away from the airport and no information could be verified if the aircraft’s crew has sent a distress signal.
All nine on board perished when the plane hit the ground and the aircraft was destroyed in the subsequent fire.
There are conflicting reports that the aircraft, loaded with cargo, was enroute to either Bukavu or Kalemie.
No information is available at this time about the weather enroute or the potential cause of the crash which will have to be established by an air accident investigation.
Being a military aircraft was it not possible to establish the registration, MSN number or date of first entry into service though efforts are being made to obtain these important details for publication here.
Condolences are extended to the families, colleagues and friends of all those on board the crashed aircraft.
