As of now, Brussels Airlines offers customers a seamless travel experience between the North of France and Africa on one single ticket. In cooperation with Flibco.com, the airline welcomes Lille to its network and offers smooth connections to its destinations in sub-Saharan Africa. For passengers this means a guaranteed connection and the possibility to collect miles and status on Miles and More for the bus trip. Brussels Airlines wants to expand intermodal options further and keeps on pushing for direct high-speed rail connections to Brussels Airport.

Lille, in the North of France is the newest destination in the Brussels Airlines network. However, the airline didn’t add flights to Lille. Passengers travelling from Lille to sub-Saharan Africa can book their ticket on brusselsairlines.com, the first part of their journey will be operated by bus thanks to a collaboration with Flibco.com, the expert in airport coach transfers.

Brussels Airlines aims to expand intermodal travel options to and from Brussels Airport. The airline repeatedly called on governments and railway operators to connect Brussels Airport directly with high-speed connections to Amsterdam, Paris and other cities in the vicinity of Brussels. In the meantime, the airline launches a cooperation with Flibco.com. This is in addition to the cooperation Brussels Airlines already has with Benerail, to offer rail connections to the Netherlands.

Said Jan Derycke, Head of Network Strategy and Planning, Brussels Airlines: ‘Bus and rail connections are essential to strengthen the connectivity of Brussels Airport and Belgium. Thanks to new multimodal travel options, passengers traveling between the North of France and our sub-Saharan African network now have a smooth, direct and more sustainable alternative to travel to Brussels Airport. It is our aim to further expand the multimodal offer with high-speed train connections and further reduce the carbon footprint in our operations.

Passengers who book this intermodal ticket can enjoy a seamless travel experience, with a guaranteed connection in Brussels. It will also be possible to collect miles and status through the Miles and More program, also on the segment that is operated by Flibco.com.

Paul De Muynck, Country Director Belgium, Flibco.com then added: ‘Flibco.com transports people in a reliable, efficient and comfortable way to airports. Doing so, we increase the catchment area of airports and airlines in a sustainable way. This collaboration with Brussels Airlines is an important milestone for us and brings us to the next level of digital integrations with airlines.

Tickets between Lille and 18 destinations in sub-Saharan Africa, including the East African destinations of Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda (and Nairobi from the start of the 2024 summer season) are bookable as from now on brusselsairlines.com and via travel agencies.
