From the sidelines of the conference have subsequently murmurs emerged, that Al Baker, always on the hunt for value addition to his airline group, may have another agenda item on his busy schedule which reportedly included a meeting with President Paul Kagame.

The Rwandan government has some time ago confirmed that, when the time is right, will RwandAir be partly privatised and being the proverbial cherry in the African skies with an ambitious agenda of fleet and destination growth would a major share acquisition by Qatar Airways no doubt shake up the industry on the continent.

Al Baker, in his keynote address, minced – as usual – no words and should there be any truth in the rumours emerging from the sidelines of the conference, would gain a major entry portal to advance his airline’s plans for a deeper penetration of the African markets.

RwandAir is due for the delivery of two more Airbus A330-900NEO aircraft later this year as well as some single aisle aircraft, to facilitate new destinations, more frequencies and the replacement of smaller aircraft.
