HEMINGWAYS WATAMU CONFIRMS DECEMBER RE-OPENING, WITH A TWIST

(Posted 30th July 2015)

Hemingways Watamu, one of Kenya’s best known coastal resorts, has confirmed their December re-opening after they closed down for renovations in May this year.

It however now transpired that the intended conversion of their so called ‘South Wing’ will not take place after all this year as the bulk of the work now carried out concentrates on the modernization of the back of house with the notable target being new piping and a replacement of the septic tanks, apart from a general overhaul and major maintenance of equipment.

(‘Gone fishing’ … )

Hemingways, which got its name from the author who regularly came for fishing from this part of Kenya, is renowned for hosting fishing competitions during the season, which has just opened a little further north in Malindi. With 76 rooms and suites is the resort a long time favourite of locals as well as visitors from overseas. The resort is a sister property to the all-suite Hemingways in the Karen suburb of Nairobi and Hemingways Ol Seki, a luxurious safari camp located on one of the most game rich conservancies adjoining the Masai Mara Game Reserve.

For additional information received do the owners intend to carry out the ‘South Wing’ conversion into serviced apartments during next year’s low season, now that all relevant building permits and licenses have been secured.
