Uganda’s health minister declared the country Ebola-free on Tuesday ?following the East African nation’s latest outbreak of the viral haemorrhagic ?disease that infected 20 people and killed two of them.
Uganda has suffered multiple outbreaks of Ebola since 2000, when it recorded its first epidemic, and officials say ?over the years the country gained expertise it has used to ?bring recent infections under control quickly with limited community spread.
Meanwhile has Uganda continued to seal the border with Congo DR, where the outbreak continues to spread with now well over 3.500 affect4ed persons and more than 1.400 people having died.
The initial ‘outbreak’ of Ebola in Uganda was traced back to Congo from where infected people had crossed the border, some of them over so called ‘Panya Routes’, i.e. illegal crossing pointes.
Uganda’s tourism industry has breathed a collective sigh of relief over the announcement and now hopes that arrival numbers will once again grow, once travel advisories i n place over the Ebola outbreak have been amended.
