News that Bill Oddie, the British Actor and broadcaster, had died at the age of 85 has brought many who knew him from the four corners of the to remember the time he visited their part of the world.
Ambassador Dr. Alain St.Ange of the Seychelles reminded friends of the famous Bill Oddie when the actor visited the Seychelles in May of 1985 when he stayed at the Reef Hotel (a former Hallway Hotel of the island).
“I was at the time Marketing Manager and Executive Assistant Manager of the Reef Hotel, and had the honour of meeting Bill Oddie and spent a lot of time with him during his stay. I was impressed by his friendly approach and funny character he was. Though he was in Seychelles not for his comedy show, but was instead filming for his Wildlife Shows and following his the love of birds, the special funny side of Bill Oddie came through in every conversation” said Amb. Dr. Alain St.Ange.
Bill Oddie is best known for the UK television show “The Goodies” that ran for 9 seasons with 76 episodes from 1970 to 1982. After “The Goodies” Bill Oddie became a wildlife broadcaster and conservationist through the BBC series including ‘Birding with Bill Oddie’ and ‘Springwatch’.
On page 632 of the Autobiography “Alain St.Ange – My Journey” souvenir photos of Bill Oddie with Alain St.Ange taken in the grounds of the Reef Hotel in the Seychelles are published on the top half of the page accompanied with one photo of the Actor sent to St. Ange.
