DOMESTIC AIRLINES REMAIN GROUNDED FOR ANOTHER 30 DAYS AS MOVEMENTS OUT OF AND INTO NAIROBI COUNTY REMAIN BARRED

Domestic flights across Kenya are now not likely to commence later this month as planned by airlines like Safarilink, Air Kenya and Jambojet after the movement ban was extended for Nairobi, Mombasa and Mandera counties.
While the movement ban was lifted for Kwale and Kilifi counties, is that not enough to kickstart domestic aviation as the main hubs, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Wilson Airport, will continue to be under ban for another 30 days – unless lifted before then by another presidential directive.
Also lifted were the lockdowns for Nairobi’s Eastleigh area and the old town of Mombasa.
Several of Kenya’s domestic airlines had in the past contacted ATCNews with updates of when they anticipate domestic air travel to start again, but the continued ban for Nairobi and Mombasa – in the face of rising case numbers across Kenya, now standing at 2.600 – has put those plans on hold.
