TANZANIA’S CIVIL AVIATION BODY AGAIN SHOWS BIAS AGAINST FASTJET TO KEEP COMPETITION AGAINST AIR TANZANIA OUT OF THE SKIES

Tanzania’s CAA has at their latest licencing meeting given Fastjet (T) the cold shoulder again, deferring their application to return to the skies until at least November.
ATCNews had it the past reported that Fastjet (T), a now legally entirely seperate company from Fastjet PLC and – if ever again – operating under a franchise agreement, had been taken out of the competition equation in Tanzania to make way for Air Tanzania on several routes which both airlines served, after denying Fastjet access to Kigoma twice last year.

Sources from within the aviation industry in Tanzania consider it unlikely that the airline will be relicenced again, inspite of the owners having settled the bulk of their outstanding dues, apart from staff claims which matter is in court at present.
Fastjet wanted to serve once more domestic, regional and continental routes which given the presently precarious financial state of national airline Air Tanzania, would have taken market share from them, something authorities are not likely to permit at this stage.
