Although treated like a state secret has information been obtained that the first group of pilots, recruited by the yet to commence operations new Uganda Airlines, left for the Bombardier facility in Montreal to commence their type rating conversion – or refresher training – for the CRJ900 aircraft.
Uganda has reportedly ordered four of these aircraft, already successfully operated by neighbours RwandAir, which are due for delivery between now and July this year.
A total of 36 pilots will be needed to operate these aircraft it was learned.
The airline also has two Airbus A330-800NEO on order but their delivery has reportedly been pushed into 2020 to allow the new airline build up traffic before entering the long haul business.

The airline was to start operations in early 2019 but the launch of operations was delayed over internal wrangling it was learned, leading to the intervention of President Museveni last month.
