While a formal announcement of the Sankara owners is still awaited has Alex Kyriakidis, Marriott’s Vice President for Africa and the Middle East earlier today let it slip that a franchise agreement has been signed between the global hotel giant and Westlands Hotels, the owning company of the five star Sankara.
Marriott, through its Four Points by Sheraton brand, already has two hotels in Nairobi, one in Hurlingham and one at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport while their flagship JW Marriott Hotel will very likely open in 2021, next to global luxury hotels rival Kempinski.

The hotel group, according to added information reported about elsewhere already, has also signed up a new developer for a Protea Hotel in Nairobi.

The rebranding of the Sankara will soon go underway, expected to coincide with the completion of the new 7th floor Presidential Suite and new Sankara rooms which are due to be completed later in the year. At that stage will also the chosen Marriott brand be revealed, as after all, knowing is not the same as telling.
