IT IS OFFICIAL – RWANDAIR RESUMES KAMEMBE FLIGHTS ON JUNE 15TH

(Posted 30th May 2015)

As the expansion and resurfacing of the runway at Kamembe Airport have been completed and only the runway markings now need finishing, has RwandAir now set a date for the return of daily flights. After the Rwanda CAA gave the green light for the resumption of services will RwandAir re-launch the destination on the 15th of June.

Initially will the route be served every afternoon, except Sunday, but that gap will be closed when the airline takes delivery of a second brand new Bombardier Q400NextGen aircraft. Like all other planes on the RwandAir fleet will the new bird, due to arrive on the 20th of June, offer a dual class cabin layout.

To re-enter the market in full force has RwandAir planned to hold a workshop for the travel trade in Kamembe on the 06th of June. Travel agencies based there serve not only the Rwandan population in this part of the country but also cater for a very large number of Congolese travelers from across the border in the town of Bukavu which population is now estimated to have reached the million mark.

Many of those travelers, for reasons of flight safety – RwandAir is IOSA certified – opt to rather fly out of Kamembe than using some of the ramshackle, here today and gone tomorrow airlines serving Bukavu airport. That decision is made easy of course through the close vicinity of Kamembe from Bukavu and convenient connections via Kigali. Travelers can seamlessly reach much of the East Africa network of RwandAir, not to forget the daily evening departures to the shopping mecca of Dubai. It is expected that this market will no doubt begin to return to Kamembe in force after, during the airport closure, having often taken the lengthy trip by road to Kigali.

In fact does the airline offer passengers from Kamembe a free overnight in Kigali if they are to connect the next morning to Brazzaville, Libreville, Lagos, Accra and Juba, a mighty incentive for travelers from that part of Rwanda and for those across the border in Bukavu.
