Gabon Launches Mitigation Base to Combat Human-Elephant Conflicts

The Gabonese government inaugurated a new provincial human-wildlife conflict mitigation base in Koulamoutou, Ogooué-Lolo province, to protect rural plantations and support communities affected by forest elephants. The strategic facility received technical support from the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Space for Giants. The modern infrastructure combines the offices of the Water and Forests brigades with the technical units of Space for Giants. The centralized hub aims to streamline complaint management, accelerate field interventions, and coordinate the deployment and maintenance of mobile electric fences.
