#MARRIOTT #KIGALI HOSTS 4TH EDITION OF REGIONAL CHEF CONTEST

16 chefs from the geographical area comprising the ‘Gorilla Highlands‘ made it into the finals of this regional chef competition, which will be held at the Marriott Kigali Hotel, the first time the event is taking place outside Uganda.
Now in its fourth year had the ‘Silverchef‘ competition already produces some extraordinary result over the past years, helping to improve culinary standards in this part of Africa while helping to develop local talent in the kitchens of hotels and safari lodges.
Today, Monday, will the basket of ingredients be decided by the organizers and unlike in past years will the participating chefs only learn about what they can cook with when they enter the kitchen.
Taking place in two shifts will the chefs then have to cook a two course meal in a narrow time frame and have enough portions for the panel of judges to sample each meals presentation and food quality.
Being hosted by the Marriott Hotel in Kigali will also the playground of the chefs change, as the hotel has ultra modern kitchens and equipment, whereas in past years the chefs had to do with much simpler work environments.
Shifting this year’s event to the Rwandan capital of Kigali was an almost natural progression after the competition, which was conceived in Uganda and for the first three years held in Kisoro, Kabale and at Lake Bunyonyi’s Birdnest Resort, opened up for Rwandan chefs two years ago and this year, for the first time, includes a chef from Congo too.
The level of participation has also increased significantly with chefs from host hotel Marriott, from Lake Kivu Serena Hotel, Park Inn by Radisson, Protea Hotel Kampala and others competing for the ‘Silver Hat‘ which is bestowed on the winner since the event was started in 2015.
