Gorilla Highlands to hold another FREE boot camp in November

THE GORILLA HIGHLANDS – LEARN ALL THERE IS TO KNOW AT THEIR LAKE BUNYONYI BOOT CAMP

(Posted 31st October 2018)

Back Home

Every year the Gorilla Highlands initiative has two main get-togethers. The Silverchef cooking competition and networking event is the better known one; it is an occasion to don your best clothes and small chat and mingle at one of the best hotels of our region.

The Bootcamp is something completely different: you camp, canoe, hike, dance and discuss while exploring remote areas of Lake Bunyonyi.

Consequently we promote Silverchef as something for our partners’ senior staff and the Bootcamp as something for junior staff.

But if you are a general manager or an investor who isn’t afraid of roughing it a little, you will not want to miss the:

Gorilla Highlands Bootcamp on 17-21 November 2018

with the main topic this year:

Transforming Our Initiative into an International Organisation

Yes, after we talked about adding Congo at the 2017 Bootcamp, we will be tackling an even more significant matter this year: the partner survey of April-May 2018 showed strong support for formalising what we have been building since 2011. Seven years after it all began, it’s high time to stop being an informal cooperative and become something that exists officially.

If you find this important but still feel you don’t belong into dugout canoes (anymore?) there will also be a chance to take part digitally through online discussions — please still register with us through our website.

(The same applies to those who sadly can’t make it to Uganda.)

The 2018 Bootcamp remains a mixture of a canoe-based fam trip, lectures and debates that is open to all tourism, media, marketing and conservation professionals and remains completely free.

There is no catch. You will be accommodated, fed and entertained at no charge, you only have to convince us you are worth it and finally organise some means to Bunyonyi.

The programme:

Sat 17/11/2018:

arrival at Edirisa on Lake Bunyonyi before 1pm
introduction to the Gorilla Highlands initiative (such sessions then continue throughout the Bootcamp)
two-hour Touch of Bunyonyi canoeing trip
campfire

Sun 18/11/2018:

half-a-day Culture on the Crest trek, followed by an island overnight at Tom’s Homestay

Mon 19/11/2018:

motorised trip to Batwa Today in Echuya Forest
visits to Bunyonyi/Kabale accommodation providers

Tue 20/11 – Wed 21/11/2018:

2-day Mama Bena’s Bonus canoe trek

NB: You can leave before Mama Bena’s Bonus, or extend your stay past Wednesday.
