INTERNATIONAL TOURISM BODIES UNITE TO FORM SIDS TOURISM ORGANIZATIONS

Umbrella bodies from six of the world’s leading tourism-dependent regions have joined forces together in an unprecedented collaborative initiative to combine efforts with the aim of promoting tourism recovery and resilience in Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
The six regional tourism groupings – African Tourism Council (ATC), ASEAN Tourism Association
(ASEANTA), Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), Destination Mekong, Indian Ocean Tourism
Organization (IOTO), and the Pacific Tourism Organization (SPTO) – have announced the formation of the SIDS Tourism Organizations, envisioned as a formidable force to advocate for interregional collaboration to strengthen the sector among developing countries and island nations that face specific social, economic and environmental vulnerabilities.
The SIDS Tourism Organizations remains the foundation from which to build a SIDS Economic Community across Africa, the Caribbean, the Pacific and the Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean and South China Sea (AIMS), marking an important milestone in the SIDS economic integration agenda through the SIDS Tourism Organizations Forum and SIDS Economic Integration Forum scheduled for late 2022/early 2023.
The new entity is expected to focus on three global projects to be held annually and rotated across Africa, ASEAN, Caribbean, Indian and the Pacific region as follows.
1. EARTH CONCERT – strategically developing a global climate movement worldwide through representation of artistes and celebrities, bands and orchestras, musicians and performing artists from Africa, ASEAN, the Caribbean, Indian and Pacific Ocean region, aimed at exhibiting local talents from each archipelago and continent.
2. WORLD TRIBE CARNIVAL – integrating ethnic and indigenous peoples from 7 Continents onto a singular platform, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the world’s indigenous communities coming together for a global celebration of tribal arts and cultural traditions, fashion and festivities, historical insights and traditional knowledge, MICE and pulsating drumbeats featuring an exceptional and colourful carnival atmosphere.
3. WORLD INDIGENOUS MUSIC FESTIVAL – showcasing the culture of ethnic and indigenous communities’ artistic creativity through their rhythm of music, dance, drumbeats, portraying the unique cultural heritage and revealing their creative industry to global audiences worldwide.
The integration of regional tourism organizations forming the SIDS Tourism Organizations was presented at the recent Steering Committee on Partnerships for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Global Multi-Stakeholder SIDS Partnership Dialogue held under the auspicious of SIDS Partnerships Framework of the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UNOHRLLS).
To be part of SIDS Economic Community, individuals from all economic sectors within SIDS countries, island nations and from various parts of the world focused on developing SIDS through collaborative propositions aiding numerous economic-clusters, industries and communities across SIDS is welcomed.
