Kampala Sheraton hosts hospitality expo

UGANDA HOTEL OWNERS ASSOCIATION STAGES ‘HOTELS AND RESTAURANTS EXPO 2015

(Posted 12th June 2015)

This year’s edition of the Hotel & Restaurants Expo will open in the morning at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel’s garden and Lion Centre, coinciding with the ongoing Kampala Restaurant Week, which comes to an end this weekend. The Expo is open for visitors at a nominal fee of 10.000 Uganda Shillings per person with children admitted for free. Food and drink sampling will be available according to the event organizers.

Both events allow the Ugandan hospitality industry to show progress made in terms of service delivery, food production quality and range of related services, but is also a measure to gauge where in particular in comparison with some neighbouring countries like Kenya and Tanzania added efforts are needed to close existing gaps.

Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, owner of the Speke Hotels Group which includes the Commonwealth and Speke Resorts and Conference Centre at the shores of Lake Victoria in Munyonyo, has generously offered cash prices for competition winners as chefs, waiters and waitresses among others try to become Uganda’s best for the year 2015/16. The two million Uganda Shillings cash prizes are supplemented with trophies, gift hampers and other goodies for winners and runner ups. The expo is organized by the Uganda Hotel Owners Association and supported by a large number of suppliers of equipment, goods and services to the hotel industry. UHOA, through its Chairperson Mrs. Susan Muhwezi and the organization’s Executive Director Ms. Jean Byamugisha, has been at the forefront to offer training seminars for hotel staff, and notably also for owners, to improve accommodation and hospitality standards across the country.
