CODESHARES OPEN UP NEW DESTINATIONS IN INDIA FOR KENYA AIRWAYS PASSENGERS

(Posted 15th November 2016)

Kenya’s national airline Kenya Airways has taken their cooperation with Jet Airways, India’s premier international airline, to the next level and has announced the two airlines to codeshare on domestic flights in India between Mumbai (BOM) and New Delhi (DEL), Ahmedabad (AMD) and Hyderabad (HYD). This will no doubt enhance connectivity choices for guests travelling from Kenya into India with Kenya Airways..
Through this agreement Kenya Airways will have its flight code (KQ) on Jet Airways’ seven daily flights between Mumbai and New Delhi, five daily flights from Mumbai to Ahmedabad and five daily flights between Mumbai and Hyderabad for travel effective today 15th of November. This, together with KQ’s twice daily flights on the Nairobi – Mumbai route will allow Kenya Airways passengers greater access to these key Indian cities and onwards to other destinations in India.
The arrangement also enables Jet Airways passengers to book codeshare tickets to Nairobi, and access the rest of Kenya Airways network across Africa.
Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and CEO Mbuvi Ngunze said the partnership will enable customers of both carriers to get maximum benefit of this cooperation. ‘This partnership will enable us to offer our customers seamless connections to the three cities. We see a lot of demand into domestic India from Kenya and East Africa, with passengers travelling mostly for business, leisure or health tourism‘ said Mr Mbuvi.
Mr. Jayaraj Shanmugam, Chief Commercial Officer, Jet Airways then responded and said: ‘With a domestic network of 46 destinations, Jet Airways connects the world into India seamlessly. Expansion of our codeshare relationship with Kenya Airways will allow us to offer the India diaspora in Kenya convenient access to more destinations in India. At the same time, Indian travellers can continue enjoying the opportunity to explore more of Kenya and East Africa via our international codeshares, strengthening the relationship between the people of the two nations‘.

While Kenya Airways is a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance is Jet Airways part of the Etihad family, which has rapidly spread its own wings across the world. Notably does Kenya Airways codeshare on Etihad operated flights between Nairobi and Abu Dhabi and this latest codeshare arrangements with an Etihad group member is a sign that Etihad Airways values their cooperation with Kenya Airways and vice versa.
