AIR PARTNERS CONFIRMS SALE AND LEASEBACK OF TWO BOEING B737-700’S FOR KENYA AIRWAYS

Kenya Airways has confirmed that the airline has sold two Boeing B737-700NG’s it acquired in 2002 and 2003 but leased back the two aircraft for continued operation.
Mbuvi Ngunze, the CEO of Kenya Airways, made the announcement and said: ‘We are very pleased with this milestone which is in line with our on-going turnaround plan. Air Partner has found a suitable buyer for the two aircraft from whom the airline will lease them for a period of 18 months to ensure seamless operations‘.
The airline has over the past year and a half rolled out ‘Operation Pride‘ aimed at restoring profitability and cutting cost without compromising on the quality of operations and this latest move now only leaves the airline with one surplus Boeing B777-200, still due to be either leased out or sold together with a spare part package and spare engine.
Next on the horizon is Victoria Falls, which Kenya Airways intends to serve from April onwards three times a week in conjunction with Cape Town, the first new destination KQ is launching in 2017.
