(Posted 12th February 2015)

One of Kenya’s great outdoor sporting and adventure events, the ‘SAX10to4’ mountain bike race, is taking place on Friday and Saturday this week. Held annually since 2002, when a small group of enthusiastic mountain bikers cycled from 10,000ft above sea level down Mount Kenya to Il Ngwezi at 4,000ft, was the name born and remained since then as The 10to4. Initially a one day event is it now held over two consecutive days and a total of six different categories are available for entry, namely: Hardcore, Classic, Extreme, Rush, Slide and Children. The different routes were designed to challenge the most prolific mountain bike riders, while also providing options suitable for others not so apt in cycling, including beginners and kids. The SAX10to4 raises funds for a range of conservation projects of the Mount Kenya Trust including the reforestation of more than 2.000 hectares of Mount Kenya’s National Reserve.

While FlySAX is the main sponsor of the event have many other organizations come on board and supported the event, starting with the Kenya Wildlife Service, Tropic Air, Borana, Ol Donyo Farm, Ngare Ndare, Kisima, Highlands Mineral Water, Rift Valley Adventures, AMREF / Flying Doctors and many others, showing broad support from the Kenyan corporate world. The event has in recent years drawn ever bigger crowds, both participants and spectators and lodges and tented camps in the vicinity of the race are expected to be fully booked over the coming days.
